Notice Description

The Southend-on-Sea Pier Railway is approximately 1.5 miles long and 3ft gauge. The track and signalling infrastructure has been subject to significant improvement and upgrade over the past year. The equipment will now need ongoing annual maintenance to ensure its good condition is sustained for the future safe and reliable operation of the railway. At this stage, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is seeking an expression of interest from potential bidders.The contract is to be offered for a period of three years, based on two site visits per year. The first site visit around March/April and the second site visit around September/October. It is anticipated that the following works will be required each year: a) Track * Visual inspection and report * Detail inspection, lubrication and adjustment of turnouts * Detail inspection, lubrication and adjustment of leverboxes * Replacement and re-greasing of loose fishplates * Replacement of loose or missing railclips * Minor track re-alignment as required * Re-painting of count-down markers * Inspect and review wheel profiles b) Signalling * Test all facing point locks on manual turnouts (3 off) * Lock and detection test for point motors (2 off) * Lubricate and clean point motors and linkage (2 off) * Lubricate and test treadles ( 4 off) * Check signal lamp function (2 off) * Check key-switch function (2 off) * Check indicator panel function (1 off) * Check power supply, earthing and functionality of location case (1 off) * Full system function test In addition to the above, there may be other minor works that will be required as a result of routine inspection.
