Notice Description

The National Army Museum (NAM) wishes to appoint an Art Handling/Installation company ('the company') to transport and install a group of 109 oil paintings and 143 framed 2D works on paper in preparation for reopening its gallery spaces in Spring 2017. Tender submissions are requested from suitably qualified and experienced contractors. The company will be responsible for: 1.) Liaison with NAM as well as other contractors from XXX appointment onwards to ensure the installation program is sequenced with other on-site building work and fit out activities. 2.) The provision of suitable packing systems, where necessary, to enable safe movement of the objects during transit. This will include Soft soft wrapping materials. Please note there are two large panorama's NAM. 1965-09-46 which is 6.8m long (this has a transit-frame) and NAM. 1954-12-21-1 which is 5m long and will require soft packing. 3.) The fixing of hanging fittings to all of the works on paper: the Museum will provide Springlock security fittings for this. Also, fixing or changing hanging fittings to some of the oil paintings: the Museum will provide Oz clips or hooks or mirror plates for this, depending on the individual painting. 4.) The transportation of the objects from the NAM store in Stevenage to the Museum in Chelsea. All works will be required to be transported in a vehicle fitted with climatic control and air-ride suspension. 5.) Positioning of all objects in pre-designated positions within the galleries. Close liaison with base build contractorthe Museum is required to identify a route that will be left clear through the galleries in order to allow installation of the objects. 6.) Responsibility for duty of care to building and internal structures during installation of objects. All precautions must be taken to avoid damage including the supply/fitting of suitable protection for floor and other areas of gallery spaces during installation of objects. 7.) Unpacking and Install : 109 Oil paintings and 143 2D works unpacked, mirror plated and hung. This will includeThe Museum will provide hanging materialsfittings. Contractors are required to demonstrate that they have in-depth experience of handling, transporting and hanging/installing large oil paintings and 2D works.
