Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process titled "Asbestos Innovation Partnership" is being managed by Sellafield, as part of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority based in Whitehaven, England. The initiative is classified under the construction work industry category and is currently in the planning stage. A significant engagement event is scheduled for 18th May 2022, with an end date for market engagement set for 31st May 2022. The tender will unfold over a period of 8 years, beginning with a 12-month research and development phase, followed by a 4-year build/pilot operations phase and culminating in a fully operational service year. Key budgets for suppliers are designated at various levels throughout the phases of the procurement process.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses focusing on innovation in asbestos treatment solutions, particularly those that can contribute to both radiologically-contaminated and non-contaminated asbestos management. Companies with expertise in construction, research and development, waste analysis, and decommissioning services would be well-suited to participate in this process. Suppliers that can successfully demonstrate viable re-use strategies and technology readiness will have a competitive edge. Firms interested in this procurement should prepare to engage collaboratively, as the NDA is looking to award multiple suppliers for various stages of the project.
