Summary of the contracting process

The University of Manchester is currently in the tender stage of its procurement process for a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). This initiative, identified by tender ID 2021/1791/VSM/NC/JD, aims to acquire sophisticated equipment designed to enhance the Department of Chemistry's capabilities for a project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) under the Horizon 2020 programme. The deadline for submitting tenders is set for 30th September 2021, while the contract period is expected to commence on 29th October 2021 and conclude on 26th May 2022. The procurement method is classified as an open procedure, falling under the goods category, specifically in the industry of geophysical instruments.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses involved in the manufacturing and supply of laboratory and precision equipment to expand their market share. Companies specialising in advanced scientific instruments, particularly those with capabilities to produce high-quality magnetometers, may find this contract particularly advantageous. Given the project's focus on innovation in chemical materials, businesses that can demonstrate technological expertise and reliability in delivering such specialised equipment will be well-positioned to compete successfully.

Notice Title

Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM)

Notice Description

The University of Manchester wishes to purchase a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) equipped with an electromagnet and optionally a closed-cycle liquid helium cryo-cooler, capable of fine control of the magnetic field with a large range of sweep rates, coupled with fast and accurate measurement of the magnetic moment, and temperature control over a wide range, to support the ERC project "ContraVib: Chemical Control of Vibronic Coupling for Magnetic Materials". The aim is to provide an electromagnet VSM to enhance the existing capabilities of the Department of Chemistry. The University seeks bids for such a VSM that will provide the best platform to enable the ERC project to be successfully completed over the next 4 years. This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 851504).
