Summary of the contracting process

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority is inviting tenders for the "Plant Information System and Associated Services" project, aimed at supporting the STEP Programme, which focuses on fusion technology. This procurement falls under the software package and information systems industry category and is currently in the tender stage, with the submission deadline set for 28th April 2022. The contract, valued at £6.6 million with an initial term until the end of March 2024, has the possibility of extensions, allowing for companies to engage in a significant long-term partnership. The contract will be executed within the UK, specifically at the Culham Science Centre in Abingdon.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in software development, IT consulting, and related services, particularly those capable of providing industry-specific solutions tailored for the energy sector. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, as there is a strong emphasis on inclusivity in this procurement process. Companies that can deliver a comprehensive Plant Information System software suite and associated services will find themselves well-positioned to contribute to the UK's ambitions in fusion energy and to grow their business through this high-value contract.

Notice Title

Plant Information System and Associated Services

Notice Description

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority is looking to procure a commercially available Plant Information System software suite and an associated services partner, to enable successful deployment and adoption of a system that meets the needs of the STEP Programme (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production). The STEP programme aims to build on UK global leadership in fusion; deliver a prototype reactor by 2040, prove the viability of fusion as a technology for generating electricity . A STEP Plant Information System is envisaged to provide a centralised repository for all Plant/Reactor information assets. The information backbone provided by such a system will record the 'Digital Thread', tracing relationships and origins between data sets, to capture the evolutionary design rationale and intent, of the fusion reactor definition, eventually leading to a 5D Building Information Model. The initial term of the contract will be in place until March 2024 with the option to extend by a further period of three years Initial term +1+1+1.
