Summary of the contracting process

The General Medical Council (GMC) is currently undertaking a tender titled "Promoting and maintaining public confidence in the medical profession," which aims to explore public perceptions concerning the response of the GMC to various behaviours of doctors, particularly under criminal justice contexts. This procurement process, classified under the services category, utilises an open procedure and is in the Tender stage. The submission deadline for proposals is 8th October 2018, with the contract anticipated to commence on 17th October 2018 and conclude by 15th March 2019. The research services required will be performed in locations including North West England and London.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in research services, particularly those proficient in market research and the design and execution of research methodologies. SMEs are encouraged to participate, as the GMC aims to incorporate diverse perspectives within its research approach. Companies that offer expertise in public opinion studies, focus group facilitation, and surveying would find this tender particularly aligned with their capabilities, positioning them well for potential growth through successful contract acquisition.

Notice Title

Promoting and maintaining public confidence in the medical profession

Notice Description

This research will explore how the public believes the General Medical Council should respond to specific behaviours/acts/omissions by doctors, particularly when these behaviours/acts/omissions have also been subject to action through the criminal justice system. The General Medical Council instigated a review of gross negligence manslaughter and culpable homicide in March 2018. One focus of this review is on the requirement placed on the General Medical Council to promote and maintain public confidence in the medical profession and how this should be put into practice, particularly where a doctor has been convicted of a criminal offence. This research will explore public perceptions regarding these issues. We suggest that this would best be achieved through a combination of focus groups and a survey with members of the public, but would be open to alternative suggestions from tenderers.
