Summary of the contracting process

The University of Exeter is seeking suppliers for the provision of water level loggers, as part of the CREWW project aimed at monitoring surface and ground water across diverse locations in the UK. This procurement falls within the goods category, specifically water meters, and is being conducted through an open procedure. The contract period is set to run from 31 March 2021 until 31 March 2022, with an award value of £70,000 linked to the selected supplier, IN-SITU EUROPE. The deadline for submission of tenders was 5 March 2021.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for companies specialising in environmental monitoring equipment, particularly those providing robust, low-power water measurement instruments suitable for remote deployments. Businesses that can supply technologically advanced, reliable water level loggers may compete effectively in this market. Engaging with this contract can enhance visibility and foster partnerships, especially for small and medium enterprises aiming to expand their footprint in the academic and environmental sectors.

Notice Title

Water Level Loggers

Notice Description

The University of Exeter is a rapidly expanding centre of internationally excellent research and education. As part of the CREWW project, we wish to procure a significant number of water level loggers. These will be deployed to measure surface water and ground water across multiple remote, upland, and lowland locations across the UK. We require a significant number of water level loggers to continuously monitor surface water depth, river channel stage and water table depth, across multiple experimental catchments and river monitoring locations across the UK. These will be deployed in remote, upland, and lowland locations to monitor temporal changes in water storage and realise from ecosystems. Consequently, the units required must be very rugged, have sufficient internal memory to allow the long-term recording of near continuous measurements (i.e. at a 15 min timestep) and episodic data retrieval. Installation locations will also not have access to external power supply and will therefore need to have and have very low power requirements and internal power supplies.
