Summary of the contracting process

The University of Nottingham has initiated a tender process for the "Hugh Stewart Halls of Residence Major Refurbishment Project", which is classified under construction work within the East Midlands, United Kingdom. The tender period for submissions will close on 24th June 2022, with the project valued at £20 million. Key milestones include appointing a preferred contractor by 29th August 2022 and the start of construction set for 13th February 2023, aiming for practical completion by 28th June 2024. This procurement follows an open procedure above the threshold, using the Two Stage Tendering Process as per the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Plan of Work.

This tender presents significant opportunities for construction firms, particularly those specialising in refurbishment projects, to engage with a prestigious educational institution. Businesses with expertise in student accommodation, mechanical and electrical services, and civil engineering would be well-positioned to compete, given the extensive scope of works required, including the refurbishment of approximately 323 student bedrooms and the addition of a new Amenity/Welcome Hub. The collaborative nature of the two-stage tendering process may also allow companies to demonstrate innovative solutions and build strong relationships with the University throughout the project lifecycle.
