Notice Information
Notice Title
Social security systems based on dignity and respect
Notice Description
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) promotes and enforces the laws that protect our rights to fairness, dignity and respect. We are the National Equality Body (NEB) for Scotland, England and Wales, working across the nine protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010: age, disability, race, religion or belief, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership, sex, sexual orientation and gender reassignment. The Scotland Committee is a statutory decision-making committee and is responsible for ensuring the overall work of the Commission reflects the needs and priorities of the people of Scotland. The Committee has delegated powers to: provide information, advice and guidance and, to conduct research in Scotland. The Scotland Committee has identified the need to undertake research which explores social security systems in a number of other jurisdictions, focusing on aspects of systems based on dignity and respect. The aims of this project are: * To provide EHRC Scotland with evidence on aspects of social security systems elsewhere that offer examples of best practice and could be said to be founded on the principles of dignity and respect. * To provide evidence on how these mechanisms have been devised, implemented and measured elsewhere, and how these could potentially be applied to Scotland's new social security system.
