Summary of the contracting process

The University of Exeter is currently undertaking a tender process titled "UOE/2017/033/NT," which focuses on the procurement of a LI-COR Li-6800 infra-red gas analyser. This procurement falls under the laboratory, optical, and precision equipment category and is taking place in the South West of England. The tender has an open procurement method and will conclude on 2nd May 2017. The contract is expected to commence shortly thereafter on 3rd May 2017 and will last for a year, ending on 3rd April 2018. Interested suppliers must register on the University of Exeter's electronic tendering system to access relevant documents.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses, particularly those specialising in scientific instrumentation and environmental monitoring technologies. Companies with expertise in precision measurement of photosynthesis and related fields would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. The emphasis on accurate measurements for climate research further aligns this tender with firms that can demonstrate innovative capabilities in providing high-quality laboratory equipment designed for rigorous academic research.

Notice Title

UOE/2017/033/NT

Notice Description

The department of Geography conducts research into the responses of plant photosynthesis and stomatal conductance responses to changes in climate. The most important photosynthetic parameters, and thus the ones we need to understand, are the maximum rates of carboxylation (Vcmax) and electron transport (Jmax). To measure Vcmax and Jmax, accurate estimates of mesophyll conductance (gm) are required. Until very recently, gm could not be measured accurately in the field and we were forced to use estimates that are known to be inadequate for water-stressed ecosystems. Accurate measurements of gm are the key that will advance our knowledge of competing photosynthetic survival strategies of trees to changes in climate, such as drought stress. We wish to purchase a new LI-COR, Li-6800 infra-red gas analyser. We require this analyser to measure leaf gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence together over a larger leaf area of 9 cm2. We require a measurement accuracy of 0.1 umol mol-1 for CO2 and 0.01 umol mol-1 for H2O and a fluorometer which allows full control of irradiance and the light in the red-blue spectral blend. For temperature response measurements we also require this machine to reach stable chamber temperatures 100C above and below ambient temperatures. It is believed that this is the only instrument currently available on the market capable of fulfilling our requirements. This capability assessment offers alternative bidders the opportunity to demonstrate the suitability of their products to fulfil our needs. Additional information: How to apply Applicants will be required to register their interest for the relevant tender documents on the University of Exeter's electronic tendering 'In-Tend' System (http://in-tendhost.co.uk/universityofexeter/asp/home.asp) The procurement exercise is completely managed via this electronic system and only registering on http://in-tendhost.co.uk/universityofexeter/asp/home.asp will ensure that you receive all the relevant information and follow-up document. Registration is free of charge to potential suppliers.
