Redcliffe Bascule Bridge Refurbishment

Notice Description

Bristol City Council is engaging the market in order to tender for Redcliffe Bascule Bridge Refurbishment works. Redcliffe Bridge crosses the Floating Harbour linking the Redcliffe Way to Welsh Back. The bridge was constructed in 1942 and comprises two fixed spans and a rolling bascule opening span. Structural modifications and a major electrical and control system refit were carried out in 1996. This tender comprises major maintenance including localised structural repairs and refurbishment/ replacement of the electrical and mechanical systems. We invite all interested contractors to a supplier's information event on Thursday 2nd April 2020 from 10:00 to 13:00 and recommend that this event is attended if you intend to bid. The Project team will explain the processes and specialist tasks required for high quality delivery of this project, and the form of tender and contract we will use. Please indicate your availability to attend the information session by registering at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/redcliffe-bascule-bridge-early-engagement-meeting-tickets-97717508699 Please be advised that a maximum of 2 representatives from each organisation will be allowed due to space restrictions. This will be held at BCC offices at 100 Temple Street. It is anticipated that the start date will be Monday 24th August 2020. Additional information: It is anticipated the works which will consist of:- Bridge and Civil Engineering Works * Traffic management, * Steelwork repairs, * Concrete repairs, * Painting of internal steelwork and bridge parapet, * Structural modifications associated with nose clamping system, * Replace timber walkway, * Bridge deck waterproofing, * Joint replacement, * Carriageway and footway surfacing, * Ducting for rising arm barriers, wig-wag signals, etc. * Drainage repairs, * Painting of cabins. * Pigeon netting. Mechanical and Electrical Works * Replace existing nose bolt mechanism with a hydraulic clamping system, * Replace manually operated emergency operating system to raise and lower the bridge with a powered system, * Maintenance of the differential gearbox, * Removal of existing gates and machinery and replace with rising arm barriers, * Arrange inspection of the thruster holding brakes and magnetic motor brakes, * Remove seized tail end air buffers and replace with modern energy absorbers, * Remove seized nose end air buffers, * Replace timber end stops, * Replace faulty bridge angle monitoring system, * Refurbish quadrant ring and rack teeth, * Provide a new electrical bridge control system, * Replace wig-wag traffic signals, * Installation of CCTV for traffic monitoring, * New electrical installations, plant supplies, electrical lighting, emergency lighting and small power installation replacement, * Strip out and dispose of redundant equipment. * Testing and commissioning, * Provide Operation and Maintenance Manual, * Provide training to Client's staff involved in the operation and maintenance of the refurbished bridge. * Provide spare parts and special tools.
