Summary of the contracting process

DSIT has awarded a contract for the "Science & Technology Venture Capital Fellowship," an initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of mid-career venture capital investors in the UK, specifically focused on science and technology sectors. The programme is a 12-month pilot with the potential for extension and seeks to uplift UK-based VC investors by strengthening their skills and network. The procurement falls under the education and training services category (CPV 80000000) and applies to various locations including British Overseas Territories, Channel Islands, Europe, Isle of Man, the Rest of the World, and the United Kingdom. The tender was conducted using an open procedure, with a contract period starting on 24 July 2024 and ending on 31 March 2026. The total value of the contract is £1,391,760 GBP.

This fellowship programme presents significant opportunities for growth, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) looking to enhance their involvement in the venture capital market. It is particularly well-suited for mid-level professionals from UK-based VC firms and high-calibre entrepreneurs aiming to transition into venture capital with a focus on Deep Tech and Life Sciences. With the programme's alignment to the Mansion House Reforms, it encourages participants from diverse asset classes to increase their investment in unlisted equities, thereby fostering an inclusive investment environment and contributing to the overall growth of the sector.

Notice Title

Science & Technology Venture Capital Fellowship

Notice Description

DSIT has procured an implementing partner to design and deliver a "Science and Technology (S&T) Venture Capital Fellowship", a 12-month pilot programme with the possibility to extend for a further year. A pilot Venture Capital Fellowship, focused on boosting the capabilities and capacity of UK-based mid-career VC investors, giving them the tools and creating the network to increase the allocation of capital into UK science and technology, with an initial focus on R&D intensive industries. As a pilot programme, the Fellowship should support a one-year cohort of 20-30 professional investors, drawn from high potential mid-level professional talent from UK-based VC firms (experienced Associate/Manager/Principal level) and high calibre entrepreneurs transitioning into venture capital with a strong interest in investing into Deep Tech and/or Life Sciences. In line with the Mansion House Reforms, we propose to include participants from other asset classes seeking to invest into unlisted equities.
