Summary of the contracting process

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is currently seeking tenders for the project titled "STEP WP5 - Design and Supply of Automated Uniaxial LCF DIC Rig." This procurement falls within the laboratory, optical, and precision equipment industry category and is being carried out in the South East region of England. The procurement stage is at the tender phase, and submissions are due by 22nd November 2019. The contract, with an estimated value of £500,000, will commence on 9th December 2019 and is expected to last until 31st December 2020. This opportunity is open and follows an open procedure procurement method.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in the design and manufacture of hydraulic testing rigs, automated systems, and environmental chambers. Companies with expertise in low cycle fatigue testing and digital image correlation may find this an advantageous bidding opportunity. Given the high automation requirements for the project, firms with strong technical capabilities and previous experience in similar projects will be well-suited to compete effectively for this contract, thereby fostering business growth in a niche market.

Notice Title

STEP WP5 - Design and Supply of Automated Uniaxial LCF DIC Rig

Notice Description

STEP requires a large volume of material qualification in a short time frame. It is therefore necessary to design and build hydraulic testing rigs for small scale specimens that have a high degree of automation to allow testing 24 hours a day with little-to-no human control. Such tests are required to be carried out in accordance with standardised test methods to permit robust, repeatable testing for material qualification. There are four main areas of expertise required for this design and supply: i. Hydraulic load rigs for low cycle fatigue, ii. environmental vacuum chambers, iii. automation and iv. digital image correlation. UKAEA's intention of this procurement is for the full design, supply and install. However, dependent on the funding for the next financial year, the supply and install element of the contract will be an option.
