Summary of the contracting process

The Liverpool City Council has completed a procurement process for the resurfacing of the Wavertree Athletics Track, located in the North West of England. The project involved replacing the existing non-porous track with a new polymeric surface system that meets International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) standards, alongside improvements to field events. The open tender was initiated on 16 March 2017 and awarded on 15 March 2017, with a total contract value of £620,133.32. The works are expected to provide a durable track surface with a lifespan of at least 15 years, requiring minimal maintenance.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses within the construction and sports facilities sector, particularly those specialising in athletic track installations and resurfacing. Companies with proven expertise in constructing high-quality sports surfaces, especially those compliant with IAAF and UK Athletics (UKA) standards, would be well-positioned to compete in similar tenders. The successful completion of projects like this can enhance a contractor's reputation and open doors to further contracts within the public sector and beyond.
