Summary of the contracting process

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is currently seeking to procure a Preparative HPLC through a limited competitive quotation process. This opportunity falls under the goods category, specifically involving laboratory, optical, and precision equipment. The tender was published on 23rd October 2020, with a submission deadline set for 6th November 2020. The selected contractor will be required to deliver the equipment to NPL's facility located in Teddington, London (TW11 0LW), with the contract period commencing on 30th November 2020 and extending until 1st November 2021.

This tender presents a notable opportunity for businesses operating within the laboratory equipment sector, particularly those specialising in laboratory automation or HPLC systems. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may find this procurement especially accessible, given the limited method of procurement used, which encourages competitive quotations below the threshold. Companies that provide innovative solutions for peptide purification and can meet the specific technical requirements outlined by NPL will be well-positioned to compete for this contract, facilitating potential growth in this specialised market.

Notice Title

RFQ - Preparative HPLC

Notice Description

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) requires automation to facilitate the purification of peptides which have been synthesized via 9-Fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc) Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS). Due to the intrinsic nature of this synthetic technique, it is quite common to isolate crude peptides as a mixture of the desired product and closely related impurities (e.g. protecting group adducts / deletion sequences). NPL tends to synthesize difficult peptides (self assembling, repeating motifs, slightly insoluble sequences) on 0.1 mmol scale via microwave assisted Fmoc SPPS; yielding 150 mg to 400 mg of crude product after resin cleavage. NPL is seeking to purchase a preparative HPLC, which will facilitate the purification of larger quantities of crude peptide per run (than we are currently able, i.e. >> 15-20 mg per un); and therefore yield greater quantities of highly pure peptides.
