Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the construction of the Advanced Engineering Centre by Bedford College, located at its Cauldwell Street campus in Bedford, England. The project, classified under "Construction work for college buildings" (CPV 45214300), has an estimated value of £3 million. The tender period for submitting proposals ended on 21 December 2016, with the contract expected to commence on 29 May 2017 and conclude on 7 August 2018. An open procurement method was utilised, enabling a wide range of contractors to participate in the bidding process, which emphasised delivering on-site apprenticeship opportunities and maintaining site functionality during construction.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for contractors, particularly small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with experience in working within active educational settings. Companies specialising in construction and those adept at integrating apprenticeship schemes into their projects would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. The winning contractor will not only contribute to educational infrastructure but also facilitate local job creation and skills development, aligning with Bedford College's strategic objectives and funding requirements from SEMLEP.
