Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the refurbishment and redecoration of Lady Isle Lighthouse, managed by the Northern Lighthouse Board, has reached the award stage. Located on a small, uninhabited island near Troon, Scotland, this project falls under the industry category of painting work, classified by CPV code 45442100. The awarded tender, valued at £80,924.01, will be executed by Rappel Ltd, and work is scheduled to take place from 1 October 2025 to 27 March 2026. Although specific procurement method details are unspecified, the geographic reach for interest includes the United Kingdom and several other territories.

This tender offers growth opportunities primarily for painting and refurbishment businesses capable of operating in challenging environments, given the island's remote location and ecological significance. Businesses suited to such contracts typically include those experienced with heritage and specialised infrastructure projects. The Northern Lighthouse Board's refurbishment projects can further bolster a company's portfolio with a well-regarded client, enabling further expansion into similar avenues within the sector.

Notice Title

GB-Edinburgh: Refurbishment and redecoration of Lady Isle Lighthouse

Notice Description

Description: Painting work. Lady Isle Lighthouse is situated on a small, flat, uninhabited Island, 2 miles east of Troon, in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland at Latitude 55 31.6 N, Longitude 444.0 W, with Ordnance Survey Ref NS 27535 29341. The island is around 0.6 kilometres long and rises to a maximum height of just 6 metres above sea level. The lighthouse was built on the island by David A Stevenson in 1903, and flashes a white light 4 times every 30 seconds. The island is covered in knee-high vegetation in the summer, and is generally uneven underfoot. It is also home to large breeding colonies of seals, gulls, cormorants and shags as well as many other rarer bird species. Until the 1990's, the island was designated as a 'Wild Bird Sanctuary' under the Protection of Birds Act 1954 and was historically classified as an 'Area of Special Protection'. These restrictions have now been lifted, however, NLB are aware of a significant number of ground nesting birds from late spring until early autumn. The works should therefore take place between October 2025 and March 2026.
