Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence, Ships, Marine Systems Support (MSS) has initiated a tender process titled "MSS/078 - Sea Water Systems Equipment Support (Pumps)", aimed at procuring a managed support solution for equipment related to Sea Water Systems. This procurement falls under the services category within the Defence sector and seeks suppliers capable of providing availability solutions for up to seven years. The tender is currently at the active stage, with a submission deadline of 28th February 2019, while the contract period is set to commence on 1st October 2020 and conclude on 30th September 2027. The anticipated contract value ranges from £20 million to £100 million, and interested bidders are required to engage via a selective procurement method, specifically a negotiated procedure.

This opportunity represents significant potential for businesses specialising in equipment maintenance, particularly those that can deliver global supply chain solutions and engineering support. Companies that provide repair and maintenance services for marine equipment, such as pumps, and possess the capability for operational defect resolution and Tactical Support will find themselves well-placed to compete. The complexity and long-term nature of the contract indicate a preference for established suppliers, but smaller and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) also stand a chance if they can demonstrate relevant expertise and innovation in service delivery.
