Summary of the contracting process

The University of Salford is inviting tenders for the supply of air velocity measurement equipment as part of its Energy House 2 project, located in Salford, England. The project is categorised under goods, specifically sensors, and aims to establish a state-of-the-art building physics test laboratory. The tender process is currently in the planning stage, with a submission deadline of 26 July 2021. The contract will commence on 1 August 2021 and is expected to run for one year, concluding on 31 July 2022. The estimated contract value is between £5,000 and £8,000, and the procurement method is an open procedure below threshold.

This tender presents a noteworthy opportunity for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specialising in sensor technology and related equipment. Businesses involved in the design, manufacture, or supply of measurement instruments, particularly those with experience in environmental and building physics applications, would be well-positioned to compete. Engaging in this contract not only opens the door to working on a cutting-edge project but also allows companies to enhance their portfolio within the building and environmental testing sector.

It has the following features: * 2 large chambers capable of having 2 family homes built in each one (4 homes in total) * Temperature controlled to within 0.5 degC from -20degC to +40 degC * Wind, rain, solar radiation and snow can be generated * These conditions provide testing facilities for housing covering 95% of the global population. The Energy House 2 Project has a requirement to measure air velocity in a chamber environment. This will range from air movement provided by wind machines through to light air movement from the HVAC units providing cooling and heating to the chamber. Another requirement will be to use air flow inside buildings to inform thermal comfort calculations.
