Summary of the contracting process

The UK Research and Innovation agency is seeking bids for the procurement of an Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) intended for polar scientific research, specifically to be deployed from the RRS Sir David Attenborough. This procurement is classified under auxiliary research vessels and has a total contract value of £1,250,000. The tender is currently active and will close on 18 June 2021. The contract is expected to commence on 5 July 2021 and continue until 28 February 2022, with delivery addresses spanning various regions including the UK and British Overseas Territories.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, especially those specialising in advanced maritime technologies, research vessels, or related goods and services. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, as they may offer innovative solutions that can meet the requirements of this high-specification ASV project, including its operational and training components. Businesses with expertise in the development and supply of equipment for specialized marine applications would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract.

Notice Title

Autonomous Surface Vehicle for British Antarctic Survey Polar research

Notice Description

Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) for polar scientific research for deployment from the RRS Sir David Attenborough. A high-specification ASV as an observational force multiplier to work alongside and reside on the RRS Sir David Attenborough (SDA), thus enhancing the observational capability of the UK's new polar research vessel. The ASV would also enable an extension of SDA's scientific capability into shallow waters and areas (e.g. near calving ice shelves) where SDA cannot operate efficiently or safely. Procurement to include the ASV, transport, launch and recovery equipment, sensors, maintenance kit and operator training
