Development and piloting of quality indicators - National Collaborating Centre for Indicator Development
Notice Description
NICE requires the provision of services to support the development of new NICE indicators. The Indicator programme develops outcome measures that reflect the quality of care, or process measures linked by evidence to improve outcomes. All NICE indicators are developed according to a robust development process and are used in a number of national indicator frameworks focused on different parts of the health service including the Quality and Outcomes Framework, the Clinical Commissioning Group Improvement and Assessment Framework. NICE indicators cover the full care pathway for health care, from public health to acute care and end of life care. The potential for indicators focused on social care and the integration between services is also being explored. Additional information: The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is the national organisation that sets the standard for high-quality health and social care. We support health and social care professionals to ensure that the care they provide is of the highest quality and offers the best value for money. We produce authoritative, evidence based guidance on the most effective ways to diagnose, treat and prevent disease and ill health, and we set Quality Standards and associated Indicators which can be used to drive quality improvement in a particular area of care. The NICE Indicator programme is part of the Health and Social Care Directorate at NICE. The Health and Social Care directorate delivers NICE's Implementation strategy. We drive and enable the effective and appropriate use of all NICE guidance and advice, and support the engagement of patients and the public. We define key standards and indicators to support quality improvement and measurement. We support national and local initiatives to improve quality, value and outcomes, and to reduce inappropriate variation across the health and care system for individuals and populations.
