Summary of the contracting process

The University of Hull is currently conducting an open procurement process to establish a stratified flow flume for the Energy and Environment Institute, a research body focused on climate change challenges. The tender, titled "Stratified Flow Flume," aims to enhance research capabilities by creating an experimental facility to study stratified flow dynamics. This process is at the tender stage, with submissions due by 1st December 2020. The total value of the contract is £220,000, and the contract period is set to commence on 5th January 2021, lasting until 30th September 2021. The project is classified under the goods category for instruments measuring flow, level, and pressure of liquids and gases, located in Hull, United Kingdom, with specified delivery addresses including British Oversea Territories, Channel Islands, and the rest of the world.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in manufacturing and engineering, particularly those specialising in instrumentation, fluid dynamics research equipment, and experimental facility installations. Companies that can provide innovative solutions or have experience in similar projects will be well-suited to compete for this contract. As the procurement is open to a broad range of suppliers, it encourages SMEs and larger firms to collaborate or offer competitive bids, potentially fostering partnerships that enhance research capabilities at the University of Hull.

As we continue to grow and deliver research that matters, we are investing in our facilities and research capabilities into a new type of experimental facility that is required to study and measure stratified flow dynamics. The facility should be capable of maintaining specified density stratification, and flow velocity profiles, within a specified working section to understand the role of inherent density variation in natural and industrial flows.
