The Bank is considering the possibility of delivering an additional secured messaging network to enable participants to connect to the Bank's Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system. The service is aimed to support operational resiliency by providing an additional means of payments messaging alongside that already provided by Swift. An additional network could also support ease of access to central bank money by providing new ways of connecting and leveraging RTGS. This is a part of the Bank's long-term vision for the renewed RTGS service: to act as an open platform for the UK financial services industry to facilitate safe and efficient settlement in central bank money.
