Summary of the contracting process

The Northern Ireland Civil Service is currently managing a collaborative framework for interpreting and translation services, valued at an estimated £10,000,000. The procurement process is now in the award stage, having been initiated with a tender published on 6 August 2021, and the contract period spans from 1 February 2022 to 31 January 2026. The framework is structured using an open procurement method, and while it includes various lots, not all received bids, notably for Braille and other accessible formats.

This framework represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in translation and interpretation services, particularly smaller businesses and voluntary and community sector enterprises, given its designation for SMEs. Companies with capabilities in telephone interpreting, face-to-face services, sign language, and translation are well-positioned to compete for contracts associated with this framework. The potential for ongoing work and growth exists, although there is no guarantee of minimum demand.

If, after the specified time, they still fail to reach satisfactory levels of contract performance, the matter will be escalated to senior management in CPD for further action.
