Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the Cambridgeshire District Councils seeking contractors for the "Parkers Piece Verge Reinforcements" project, a work primarily focused on construction. The contract, valued at £130,000, aims to enhance a key green space in central Cambridge, specifically addressing issues related to pedestrian and cycle traffic which have compromised the integrity of the grass verges. The tender period concluded on 17 January 2019, and the contract was awarded on 26 February 2019, with the intended completion date set for 31 July 2019.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the construction industry, particularly those with experience in landscaping, civil engineering, and infrastructure development. Businesses capable of providing construction services that focus on sustainable maintenance of public spaces, as well as those with a track record in similar projects, would be well-suited to engage in future opportunities arising from such public procurement contracts. Engaging with projects under the auspices of local councils can not only enhance a firm's visibility but also contribute to the sustainable management of community assets.

Notice Title

Cambridge City Council - Parkers Piece Verge Reinforcements

Notice Description

Parker's Piece is a very important green space in the centre of Cambridge. There are high numbers of pedestrians and cycles crossing the park mostly using the paths and many informal sports played on the grass most days of the week. The area is used for a large number of events with vehicles accessing the area when setting up and removing the events. The existing grass edges on both sides of the paths are being damaged due to the pedestrian, cycle overrun and occasional vehicle traffic. This is being made worse by water sitting at the edge of the path, saturating the grass verges forming ponding on the verge and path, narrowing the path and increasing the overrun. The existing paths have poor shape both transversely and longitudinally. The proposed solution shall improve the shape of the paths with path edging works and resurfacing. By lifting the paths the water will be able to run off the paths and the granular fill below the grass reinforcement shall act as water storage and also the foundations for the grass reinforcement.
