Summary of the contracting process

Wealden District Council, through SE Shared Services, is inviting tenders for the project titled "ESPH SB Walshes Park - SANGS (ESPH175A)," aimed at developing a Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANGS) on a 70-acre site near Crowborough, South East England. The procurement process, classified under agricultural and related services, has reached the award stage, with the contract awarded to Chaffin Works for an amount of £441,172.07. The contract period is set to commence on 26 June 2017 and will run until 31 March 2019. The tender period closed on 19 May 2017.

This project represents a significant opportunity for contractors specialising in environmental works, landscaping, and public space development to engage in a government-funded initiative aimed at enhancing community spaces. Businesses that offer services in ecological landscaping, installation of pathways, signage, and community engagement activities would be particularly well-suited to compete in similar future tenders. The emphasis on creating sustainable and accessible recreational areas indicates a growing market for companies focused on green infrastructure and conservation efforts.

Notice Title

ESPH SB Walshes Park - SANGS (ESPH175A) - AWARD

Notice Description

Wealden District Council are seeking tenders from suitably qualified and experienced contractors for the development of a Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANGS). The Council obtained a 70 acre site on the outskirts of Crowborough in December 2015 to form a Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space, designed to mitigate the effect of new development on the nearby Ashdown forest. The aim of a SANGS is to provide an alternative area of recreational green space, to divert a growing population from using the Ashdown Forest and damaging its delicate ecosystem by increased recreational pressure. The space has to appeal to a wide variety of users while appearing to be a natural environment, able to sustain footfall, both in terms of interest and the ability to remain viable and accessible during the winter months. Works will include: * Fencing and accessways * Tree and hedge planting * Wildflower meadows and swathes * Design and installation of signage, benches, wayfinders and educational boards * Further development of the site in particular access in and around Alderbrook Stream and the wetland areas on the sites including installation of boardwalks, bridges, etc. * Further development of the site with particular emphasis on involving local communities * Development of the Scheduled Ancient Monument and Site of Archaeological Interest areas to provide access to and promoting the educational potential for the site
