Summary of the contracting process

Public Health England (PHE) has completed a procurement process for the provision of green top test tubes, an essential item classified under the goods category, specifically within the healthcare industry. The procurement was made under a limited method due to extreme urgency prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The contract, valued at £147,000, was signed on 2nd September 2020, and aimed to ensure the availability of test tubes needed to support increased COVID-19 testing efforts in the UK. This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in the supply of medical or healthcare-related goods, particularly those capable of meeting urgent demands. Companies that can ensure quick delivery and compliance with health regulations would be especially well-positioned to compete for similar contracts in the future. The successful bidder for this contract was Bio-Packaging Limited, indicating a pathway for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the health sector to engage with public procurement processes that are increasingly geared towards meeting urgent public health needs.
