Summary of the contracting process

The University of Strathclyde has completed a procurement process for the "Supply, Delivery and Commissioning of Automated Crystallisation Platform," which is classified under laboratory, optical, and precision equipment. The contract, valued at £115,000 and awarded on 18th February 2021, was conducted under a limited negotiation procedure without prior publication. The equipment is specifically intended for use in the UK, particularly in Glasgow, and aligns with the university's efforts to enhance their capabilities in solvent screening and process optimisation.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses involved in high-technology laboratory equipment, particularly those specialising in automated crystallisation systems and related technologies. Given the exclusive nature of the contract awarded to Technobis Crystallization Systems B.V., companies with unique patents or a strong technological presence in the field may find avenues for collaboration or future procurement opportunities within educational institutions. Providers who can offer innovative solutions and meet specific scientific requirements in the UK region would be particularly well-suited to compete.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The University intends to award a contract under the negotiated procedure without prior publication under the provisions of regulation 33.1.b.iii. For the Crystallisation Systems that the University require, the firm Technobis Crystallisation Systems B.V have several patents granted for the Crystalline: The firm Technobis Crystallization System B.V. have several patents granted for the Crystalline: 1) WO2010082817, EP2376216; Stir system and a method for providing a chemical reaction. 2) WO2007035087, EP1934587; System and method for solubility curve and metastable zone determination.

Procurement Information

The equipment to be procured must be an automated crystallisation platform to expand our current capabilities in solvent screening and process optimisation. The system must have parallel reactors which can operate with independent temperature conditions and have a working volume of 1 - 10 mL per reactor. In-situ imaging for each reactor must be possible and fully integrated with each of the reactor conditions. A secondary indicator of particle dissolution/evolution in addition to imaging must also be available. The system must be software controlled with a highly user-friendly interface. That Technobis Crystallization Systems B.V. is the only global provider of the Crystalline, a turbidity measurement system with in-situ optics and Raman integration using small sample size. This unique technology to the market meets the following specifications: a) Ability to work with small sample volumes (2-5 mL). b) Contains 8 reactors in eight separate heating zones which can be controlled between -25 and 150 deg C. c) System is controlled by a unique software that allows easy measurements of solubility, crystallization and determination of the metastable zone width in precipitation/ crystallization processes. d) Ability to stir using overhead stirrer on small sample volumes (2-5 mL) The identified system is evidenced to have a unique capability as evidenced by the following patents: 1) WO2010082817, EP2376216; Stir system and a method for providing a chemical reaction. 2) WO2007035087, EP1934587; System and method for solubility curve and metastable zone determination. The firm Technobis Crystallization Systems BV, established in Pyrietstraat 2, 1812 SC Alkmaar is the exclusive representative in the US of the products manufactured by Technobis Crystallization Systems BV, and is the only trained and competent company for the sale and support of such equipment in the United Kingdom.
