Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust, is currently engaged in a public procurement process for the 'Provision of Emergency Department Well-Being & Home Safe Service' in Wales. The procurement falls under the healthcare services industry and has an ongoing duration from 1st April 2021 for a period of 12 months, with the potential for a 12-month extension depending on funding confirmation. This open procedure is set to award contracts to a single provider for various health boards across different regions including Cardiff and Vale, Cwm Taf Morgannwg, Hywel Dda, Swansea Bay, and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Boards.

This tender presents opportunities for businesses specialising in healthcare and welfare services, particularly those capable of delivering emergency department support. Companies that excel in providing non-residential welfare services and have experience in operating within a hospital environment would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The health boards already involved indicate a strong focus on quality and approach, suggesting that providers with innovative solutions to enhance patient well-being in stressful scenarios will have a competitive advantage.

Notice Title

Provision of Emergency Department Well-Being & Home Safe Service

Notice Description

Presentation at an Emergency Department often represents a person's initial experience within a hospital system and thus a unique opportunity to establish a positive first impression. These visits frequently occur during times of stress and uncertainty for a patient and their family, and the Emergency Department care environment is one that faces a myriad of challenges. In order to respond to these challenges, the Welsh Government, in collaboration with the National Collaborative Commissioning Unit and NHS Wales Health Boards and Trusts, are seeking to establish an Emergency Department Well-being & Home Safe Service. The contract will commence on the 1st April 2021. The duration of the contract will be for 12 months with the option to extend for a further 12 months subject to the confirmation of funding.
