Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves Public Health England (PHE) awarding a contract for the provision of chemical reagents specifically for GridION platforms to support the COVID-19 Genomics UK (COG-UK) consortium. The procurement method employed was a limited procedure, allowing for the contract's award without prior publication due to the extreme urgency prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The contract was signed on 15 January 2021 and is valued at £264,000. The buying organisation, PHE, is located in Salisbury, UK, and is acting in its capacity as a Category 1 Responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in chemical reagents, particularly those with capabilities to support urgent healthcare needs. Companies that have experience supplying goods for public health emergencies or those involved in biotechnology and life sciences could be well-suited to compete in similar future tenders. The urgency related to COVID-19 highlights the potential for contracts that require quick delivery and innovative solutions, making this an essential area for growth in the procurement market.
