Summary of the contracting process

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is currently engaged in the procurement for the supply and delivery of office furniture, a contract that was previously awarded in June 2016. The initial contract value was £1,410,000, and due to the need for continued services, a modification of £150,000 is planned, extending the contract by six months, effective from 14 June 2021. This tender is classified under the goods procurement category, specifically within the office furniture industry, and follows a limited procurement method. The existing contract will expire on 13 June 2021, necessitating this modification to avoid disruptions during a new procurement exercise.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in office furniture supply, especially those with capabilities to meet diverse requirements for different police operational settings, including offices, storage areas, and conference rooms. Companies that can provide compliant furniture solutions to meet health and safety standards for police environments would be particularly well-suited to participate. The upcoming procurement competition for a replacement contract may allow businesses to establish or expand their partnerships with a key public sector organisation, potentially leading to long-term contracts in a stable and essential industry.

PSNI Supply & Delivery of Furniture

Notice Description

Following an open competition (advertised in the Official Journal of the EU in 9-12-2015), the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) entered into a contract on 14 June 2016 with an Economic Operator (withheld for security reasons) for the Supply and Delivery of Furniture, The current contract will expire on 13 June 2021, however it has become unavoidably necessary to continue to maintain the existing services beyond this point for a period of 6 months whilst a new procurement exercise is completed. The PSNI intends to modify the contract in accordance with Regulation 72(1)(b) due to the economic and technical reasons and the substantial duplication of cost and significant inconvenience associated with changing to a new contractor to support the current services whilst the PSNI undertakes a new procurement. PSNI intends to launch a procurement competition and award a replacement contract for the PSNI Supply and Delivery of Furniture within the extended period.
