Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom has successfully completed a tender entitled "Odour Memory," which falls under the defence sector, specifically focusing on dog training services. The contract is linked to research determining the impact of training frequency on odour recall in detection tasks. Awarded on 26th July 2021, this procurement process was conducted through a limited method without prior publication of a call for competition, and has resulted in a contract valued at USD 214,477, currently active and managed by Auburn University. The delivery of services relates to research conducted in the US, specifically in Auburn, Alabama.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in animal training and research services, particularly those specialising in canine studies for detection and search tasks. Given the nature of the work and the expertise required, companies with strong backgrounds in behavioural science, training methodologies, and veterinary sciences would be well-suited to compete for similar future contracts within this sector, especially those looking to collaborate with national defence initiatives.
