Summary of the contracting process

The Swale and Ure Drainage Board has completed the tender process for the provision of Watercourse Maintenance Services. This procurement falls under the category of agricultural, forestry, horticultural, aquacultural, and apicultural services, primarily focused on maintaining watercourses within the authority district of North Yorkshire. The procurement method employed was an open procedure, with the initiation type classified as a tender. A total budget of £3,100,000 has been allocated for this initiative, which included two distinct lots: one for the North District and another for the South District. Key dates included the contract signing on 10 December 2021, with services expected to commence in April 2022.

This procurement offers significant opportunities for businesses, especially small and medium enterprises, to engage in essential maintenance activities within the environmental services sector. Firms specialising in grounds maintenance, as well as those equipped for tasks such as flail mowing, de-weeding, and de-silting, would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. Given that the services are to be delivered over an extended contract period, businesses can expect potential long-term relationships with the Swale and Ure Drainage Board, contributing not only to their growth but also to vital environmental management activities in the region.
