Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the "NDA 20 Upgrade" was initiated by Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL), responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the Dounreay site in the UK. This project falls under the goods category, specifically focusing on "Miscellaneous evaluation or testing instruments" and was conducted through a limited procurement method without prior publication. The award criteria included both quality and price considerations, each contributing 50% to the evaluation. The contract was signed on 5th October 2021, and it had an estimated value of £898,400, with delivery located at the contractors' premises in the UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in nuclear evaluation instruments, particularly those proficient in upgrading computer hardware and software for processing information from neutron detection equipment. Companies with a strong grasp of technological innovation and decommissioning processes would be well-suited to compete in this space. Given that the winning supplier was Mirion Technologies (Canberra UK) Ltd, firms offering specialised technical expertise in nuclear instrumentation and related services are likely to find a receptive market in the ongoing needs of DSRL and similar organisations within the nuclear sector.
