Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the Ballylumford 110kV GIS Substation Switchboard is being conducted by Northern Ireland Electricity Networks Limited (NIE Networks). This initiative falls under the goods category, specifically within the switchgear industry. The procurement is currently at the planning stage, with key activities anticipated to start in August 2022. Interested parties must complete their registration through the Achilles Utilities Vendor Data Base (UVDB) by 29th November 2021 to participate. Bidders can submit proposals for either SF6 or non-SF6 solutions, and the estimated contract value is approximately £15.5 million.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in high-voltage electrical infrastructure, particularly those with capabilities in design, engineering, and switchgear procurement. Companies that qualify as Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or suppliers of 110kV GIS switchgear, with proven expertise in constructing HV GIS substations, would be well-suited to compete for this contract. Successful participation could lead to sustained business growth, given the long-term nature of the project, projected to span around three years.
