Summary of the contracting process

The Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) seeks to procure services for the "Sellafield Transmutation of Elements in an Accelerator (STELLAR)" project, focusing on research and development within the nuclear industry. The procurement process is currently in the Award stage, with a contract value of £883,000 signed on 19 October 2021. The tender was structured as a limited procurement method, enabling direct awards without prior publication, and involved the National Nuclear Laboratory as the active supplier. This initiative is based in the UK, and encompasses various requirements such as designing a five-year experimental programme and engineering specifications.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in nuclear safety equipment, research and development services, and consultancy within the nuclear sector. Companies with expertise in experimental programme design and engineering specifications, as well as those capable of delivering high-level consultancy services in partnership with national laboratories and academic institutions, would be particularly well-suited to compete for future contract opportunities in this domain. Engaging in this project could allow businesses to expand their portfolios and establish long-term relationships with influential agencies within the energy and nuclear sectors.
