Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has awarded a contract titled the "Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy Programme - Regional Supplier Contract - Cumbria" to Fibrus Networks GB Ltd. This procurement is part of the government’s initiative to deploy gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure in areas of the UK unlikely to receive commercial investment, specifically focusing on Cumbria. The programme falls under the telecommunications services industry category. The procurement process, which followed a restricted procedure, required suppliers to register and submit tenders electronically. The contract was signed on 1 December 2022 and is set to run until 31 December 2033. The total contract value is £149,748,406, following a modification that increased the awarded value from an initial commitment, covering the delivery of broadband services to an expanded number of premises to achieve 99% coverage.

This tender creates significant opportunities for businesses operating in the telecommunications infrastructure sector, including those involved in the design, build, and maintenance of gigabit-capable networks. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) like Fibrus Networks GB Ltd, which is based in Belfast, are well-suited to compete in such procurements, particularly those with experience in large-scale broadband implementation projects. Participating in this contract could provide long-term, sustainable business growth, especially for companies specializing in telecommunications equipment, network installation, and communications system maintenance. The contract will address the "final 20%" (f20) segment that is hardest to reach, thus lifting broadband service inclusivity and potential market reach for successful suppliers.
