Coventry University has a long tradition as a provider of education. Our roots go as far back as Coventry College of Design in 1843. It was in 1970 that Coventry College of Art amalgamated with Lanchester College of Technology and Rugby College of Engineering Technology. The resulting institution was called Lanchester Polytechnic: 'Lanchester' after the Midlands automotive industry pioneer, Dr Frederick Lanchester, and 'Polytechnic' meaning 'skilled in many sciences and arts'. In 1987 the name changed to Coventry Polytechnic and in 1992 the University was set up under UK Government legislation, as laid out in the University's Instrument and Articles of Government. Coventry is a global university with offices in China, Kenya, Nigeria and Pakistan it has world leading research and academic partners on every continent, with students gaining life changing experiences all over the world. Coventry is a forward-looking, modern university with a tradition as a provider of high-quality education and a focus on applied research. Students benefit from state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in all academic disciplines including health, design and engineering laboratories, performing arts studios and computing centres. Coventry has been chosen to host three national Centres of Excellence in Teaching and Learning which has enabled it to invest substantial sums of money in health, design and mathematics. * Awarded University of the Year for Student Experience (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019) * Awarded Gold for outstanding Teaching and Learning - TEF 2017 * The country's top modern university for seven consecutive years (Guardian University Guide 2013-2019) * Coventry University is ranked 13th in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2019) * 97% of graduates were employed or in further study six months after graduation (DLHE Survey 2015/16) * Coventry was ranked top 10 across 12 subject areas (Guardian University Guide 2019) The phoenix was a mythical bird with splendid plumage, reputed to live in the Arabian Desert. Fabled to be the only one of its kind, the phoenix lived for five or six centuries, after which it burned itself to death on a funeral pyre of aromatic twigs ignited by the sun and fanned by its own wings. The phoenix rose from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle. Such a symbol is a fitting reminder of the way in which the city of Coventry rebuilt itself after suffering devastation during the Second World War. It is a symbol with which Coventry University is proud to be associated and to have adopted as its own. Coventry University has achieved great success in recent times, with rapid rises in league table position and student satisfaction, as well as strong growth in student numbers. The relocation of the Research Team to Elm Bank brings together the various Research Teams under one roof to further enhance the Research agenda of the University. Key to the success of the building will be audio visual solutions that will support teaching, learning and research, enhancing the student experience. The solutions required will provide solutions in teaching spaces, for use by staff and students.
