Summary of the contracting process

The Forest School, located in Winnersh, Berkshire, has recently completed a tender process for the provision of daily catering services to its students and staff. The procurement was initiated under the selective method and classified under CPV code 55524000, as it falls within the social and specific services category of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015. This service, which includes breakfast and lunch, is for a total of approximately 578 pupils, with 46 eligible for free school meals. The contract duration is aimed for an initial term of 3 years, with an option for 4 annual extensions, making the maximum possible length 7 years. The tender was evaluated based on criteria mainly focused on quality (85%) and price (15%), and the contract has been awarded to Aspens Services Ltd.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for catering businesses, particularly those specialising in educational institutions. With a substantial initial contract value of approximately £1.4 million, there is potential for robust growth for suppliers able to meet the tender requirements. Companies with experience in school catering, especially those familiar with handling dietary needs and food services for large groups, would be well-suited to compete. The competitive selection process allows a maximum of five suppliers to demonstrate their capabilities further at the Invitation to Tender stage, thus opening avenues for smaller enterprises to participate alongside larger firms.
