The Isle of Anglesey County Council is initiating the "Red Wharf Bay Flood Alleviation Scheme," aimed at improving coastal defences following significant flooding events in December 2013. This planned procurement falls under the category of coastal-defence works, with an estimated value of £1.75 million. Key dates include a deadline for contractors to express interest by 21st December 2021, and the project is expected to commence in March 2022, concluding in March 2023. The site is located in the Anglesey region of the United Kingdom, and the procurement method is classified as tender.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for construction and engineering firms, particularly those experienced in coastal defence works, to enhance their portfolio and contribute to community resilience against flooding. Eligible businesses that can fulfil the qualifications for this project include contractors specialising in civil engineering, masonry, and environmental protection works. Engaging in this tender could significantly drive growth for firms focusing on sustainable infrastructure solutions, given the increasing prevalence of climate-related challenges.

Notice Title

Red Wharf Bay Flood Alleviation Scheme

Notice Description

A major flooding event occured in December 2013, and the smaller events in the 2013-2014 winter period saw flooding in Traeth Coch (Red Wharf Bay) not seen for many years. The coastal wall did little to prevent seawater inundating the properties along the frontage, with businesses and residential properties being flooded. The grassed area, and the coastal road were both also flooded, and in many places, the wall is breached by high tides and stormy weather on an almost annual basis. The Traeth Coch (Red Wharf Bay) Sea Defence Scheme will aim to protect the community from a 1 in 200-year coastal flooding event.
