Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish National Service, acting through National Procurement, is currently managing a tender for the supply of Wound Closure Products, classed under surgical sutures, to NHS Scotland. This procurement, initiated due to the ongoing demands of the healthcare sector exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, is in the award stage and concerns a contract valued at £21 million. The contract period runs from December 1, 2021, to November 30, 2022. Modifications to the original contract have been made to ensure continuity of supply from established suppliers, thereby avoiding potential disruptions in service throughout the NHS Scotland network.

This tender presents significant opportunities for organisations involved in the supply of medical goods, particularly those specialising in surgical products like sutures and staples. Businesses equipped to deliver these medical supplies efficiently and that have experience working with the healthcare sector will be in a favorable position to compete. Participation in such contracts can support growth in this niche market, especially for businesses already understanding NHS requirements and procurement processes.
