Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence, specifically the Royal Navy, has completed the procurement process for the "Provision of WADER Software Upgrade Plan," a contract valued at £1,380,399, excluding VAT and potential option years. This procurement falls under the goods category focusing on licence management software, and it was awarded to Ocean Acoustic Developments Ltd. The contract has a duration of two years with the option to extend for an additional two years. The procurement method utilised was limited, specifically through a negotiated procedure without prior publication of a contract notice, as competition was determined to be absent for technical reasons.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for companies specialising in software development and technical support, particularly those that focus on defence-related technologies. Businesses with expertise in sonar software and licence management systems would be particularly well-suited to engage with the Ministry of Defence. As this contract relies heavily on specific technical knowledge, those with capabilities in software upgrades and ongoing technical support may find themselves in a strong position to meet future needs arising from similar contracts.
