Summary of the contracting process

The NSS National Procurement is preparing to launch a tender for "Low Vision Aids" aimed at supporting the National Low Vision Service for Scotland. This procurement falls under the goods category within the optical aids industry, and it is set to begin in July 2022. The initiative will roll out over four years across all geographical areas of Scotland, expecting to assess approximately 20,000 patients by the end of the 2026/27 financial year. The expected total contract value is £3.5 million, which includes an initial 4-year term with the possibility of two 12-month extensions. Interested suppliers should note that the notification is currently in the planning stage.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in optical aids and related medical supplies, particularly those capable of supplying items such as magnifiers, vision charts, and electronic/digital aids. Companies that can meet the diverse needs of the National Low Vision Service, especially those with the capability to deliver to rural and island locations across Scotland, will be well-positioned to compete. Engaging in this procurement process could substantially enhance market reach and contribute to growth within the healthcare sector.
