Summary of the contracting process

The James Hutton Institute, located in Dundee, is facilitating a procurement process titled "Open Path CH4 Analyser" for goods in the scientific research industry. The procurement, classified under the CPV code for analysers, is currently in the Award stage, with the contract signed on 16th May 2022. This limited procurement method did not involve prior publication of a call for competition, indicating a focused buying strategy for specialised equipment tailored for measuring methane exchange in peatland ecosystems. The delivery location is specified as The James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen, UK, and the total contract value amounts to £249,235.80.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in scientific instrumentation, particularly in environmental research and analysis. Companies that manufacture or supply advanced measurement tools capable of operating on off-grid power sources would be well-suited to compete for similar contracts. The complexity and specificity of the equipment required mean that businesses with expertise in methane analysis and related technologies are likely to benefit significantly from such tailored procurement exercises, fostering growth in a niche market.

Open Path CH4 Analyser

Notice Description

Open path CH4 analysers

Procurement Information

Methane is a key component of the carbon budget in peatland ecosystems. To measure methane exchange over peatlands we have to use off-grid power sources which limits the instrumentation that can be employed. The LI-7700 is the only instrument on the market that can measure methane exchange at the concentrations we observe and can run on our power systems
