Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence is planning to initiate a tender titled "Tri Service Merchandising," which falls under the miscellaneous business-related services industry category. This procurement effort is being conducted to appoint an agent responsible for identifying commercial exploitation opportunities for MOD's trademarks and brands. The tender process is currently in the planning stage, with a communication deadline set for 31st July 2022. The expected delivery location for services is throughout the UK, and the current contract is set to expire on 31st July 2023, necessitating this new procurement.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses that specialise in branding, merchandising, and marketing, particularly those experienced in working with governmental contracts. Companies with capabilities in law, consulting, and strategic brand management will be well-suited to compete for this contract, given its focus on safeguarding and exploiting MOD’s intellectual property. Engaging with this contract could enable firms to establish long-term relationships with defence authorities while contributing to a revenue-generating merchandising programme that raises brand awareness for the UK Armed Forces.

Tri Service Merchandising

Notice Description

This contract appoints an agent to act on MOD's behalf to find commercial exploitation opportunities for its trade marks and brands.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The current Tri-Service Merchandising Services contract is due to expire on the 31st July 2023. This contract appoints an agent to act on MOD's behalf to find commercial exploitation opportunities for its trademarks and brands. DIPR has a direct delegation from Secretary of State for Defence to ensure protection of MOD names, insignia and logos through trademark rights. Without a merchandising service, trademark use cannot be established, and, under the Trade Mark Act 1994, trademarks can be revoked for non-use. Therefore, DIPR has a key responsibility to ensure ongoing use of MOD trademarks through merchandising. The merchandising programme is also a key tool used by DDC to raise brand awareness in respect of the UK Armed Forces and brings significant revenue into the department in the form of license royalties. These benefits will be lost if a merchandising services contract is not maintained. Additional information: To notify your interest in this requirement please respond to james.smith868@mod.gov.uk no later than 31st July 2022.
