This Prior Information Notice (PIN) is separate to any tender opportunity. its purpose is to consult and gauge interest in the market to improve NHSBT's knowledge of current supply and/or maintenance of New Xray Irradiators available in the marketplace. It is the intention of NHSBT to further consult those organisations who express an interest to identify preparatory validation work required prior to future tendering opportunities.

This Prior Information Notice (PIN) is separate to any tender opportunity and its purpose is to consult and gauge interest in the market to improve NHSBT's knowledge of current supply and maintenance of Xray Irradiators available in the marketplace. It is the intention of NHSBT to further consult those organisations who express an interest to identify preparatory validation work prior to future tendering opportunities. The main essential technical requirements include:
1. Supply and or maintenance of new X-ray Irradiators Units.
2. Integral cooling system (complete unit)
3. 6 units / ~5mins per cycle
4. Dose uniformity to achieve 25-50Gy throughout the irradiation field
5. Dosimetry system that is cost effective with a low enough Uncertainty of Measurement to still demonstrate full compliance with 25-50 Gy plus uncertainty (reported at 95% confidence interval)
6. Proven reliability at other blood establishments with throughput ranging from 16K up to 55K blood components per blood irradiator per year - as per ISO/ASTM 51939 2017 ISO standards for blood irradiation dosimetry
