Notice Description
Falmouth Marine School have successfully bid for strategic development funds to undertaken a "De-carbonising a marine vessel" project. The project will result in college learners and industry partners being able to access a commercially available vessel with a number of differing power installation options (diesel, electric, hybrid). The intended use of the vessel will allow users the experience of operation of such a vessel, to measure performance; and to undertake analysis of the commercial, financial and environmental benefit of each installation option.

Project Intent:Falmouth Marine School have successfully bid for strategic development funds to undertaken a "De-carbonising a marine vessel" project. The project will result in college learners and industry partners being able to access a commercially available vessel with a number of differing power installation options (diesel, electric, hybrid). The intended use of the vessel will allow users the experience of operation of such a vessel, to measure performance; and to undertake analysis of the commercial, financial and environmental benefit of each installation option.Requirements:To supply a power-driven vessel of approximately 6 metres overall length with braked trailer and assist Falmouth Marine School staff undertake the build through to completion of this project with the result that the School will own a marine vessel that is compliant with relevant legislation (RCD etc) with optional drive systems. This vessel to have the potential for use as a harbour launch/ work boat or a recreational vessel. The range of use for the vessel to be within the confines of a local estuary and coastal waters (Falmouth Harbour and the Carrick Roads; Helford River and Gillan Creek; River Fowey and estuary; Plymouth Harbour and local rivers; Camel River and estuary; Hayle River and Harbour approaches; Penzance, Newlyn, Mousehole and St. Michaels Mount).* The target vessel is of to be of approximately 6mtr OAL, similar to that as supplied by Cockwells of Mylor Creek Boatyard (Cockwells | Duchy Motor Launches | The Duchy 21 | Gentleman's Yachts). * Digital Dry Dock have been appointed to oversee the design and fit out of the project. Contact details: martin.peart@falmouthmarineschool.ac.ukThe vessel is to be complete and in full compliance with RCD requirements, afloat or in a state that is complete and ready to be put afloat by the week commencing 06-03-2023.Equipment list:To supply and assist with the installation of the following equipment, all to be compliant with relevant legislation (RCD etc.)Diesel installation2 Cylinder marine diesel engine and drive system, Stern gear and propeller to include engine control system, engine panel, hoses, cabling and ancillary (fuel, cooling, exhaust, fire extinguisher) equipment as required.Electric installationE-line motor (48 volt) and drive system, Stern gear and propeller to include electronic display/ drive module, cabling and ancillary (cooling, fire extinguisher) equipment as required.440Ah AGM batteries (48 volt bank), with isolation switches.Shore supply charger installation (Victron or similar specification) Cabling and shore power lead as requiredHybrid installation (in addition to the above electric installation)6.5 kVA generator set (Fischer Panda) to provide 48V charging capability with all cables as required to provide electrical power to the installed 440Ah battery pack.Solar panels and mountingDeck/ hull installation Additional works as required to include full fit out of equipment to include the addition of all deck and hull equipment such the vessel can be moored alongside or kept on a tidal mooring with a basic navigation package (GPS, depth) such that the vessel is complete and ready for use.TrailerIt is envisaged that the vessel may be dry stored and launched when required to be put in to use, as such the tender should include the supply of a braked trailer (UK road legal) of sufficient size for the displaced weight of the vessel.
