Notice Description

Falmouth Marine School have successfully bid for strategic development funds to undertaken a "De-carbonising a marine vessel" project. The project will result in college learners and industry partners being able to access a commercially available vessel with a number of differing power installation options (diesel, electric, hybrid). The intended use of the vessel will allow users the experience of operation of such a vessel, to measure performance; and to undertake analysis of the commercial, financial and environmental benefit of each installation option.

Project Intent:Falmouth Marine School have successfully bid for strategic development funds to undertaken a "De-carbonising a marine vessel" project. The project will result in college learners and industry partners being able to access a commercially available vessel with a number of differing power installation options (diesel, electric, hybrid). The intended use of the vessel will allow users the experience of operation of such a vessel, to measure performance; and to undertake analysis of the commercial, financial and environmental benefit of each installation option.Requirements:To supply a power-driven vessel of approximately 6 metres overall length with braked trailer and assist Falmouth Marine School staff undertake the build through to completion of this project with the result that the School will own a marine vessel that is compliant with relevant legislation (RCD etc) with optional drive systems. This vessel to have the potential for use as a harbour launch/ work boat or a recreational vessel. The range of use for the vessel to be within the confines of a local estuary and coastal waters (Falmouth Harbour and the Carrick Roads; Helford River and Gillan Creek; River Fowey and estuary; Plymouth Harbour and local rivers; Camel River and estuary; Hayle River and Harbour approaches; Penzance, Newlyn, Mousehole and St. Michaels Mount).* The target vessel is of to be of approximately 6mtr OAL, similar to that as supplied by Cockwells of Mylor Creek Boatyard (Cockwells | Duchy Motor Launches | The Duchy 21 | Gentleman's Yachts). * Digital Dry Dock have been appointed to oversee the design and fit out of the project.
