Waste Water Sludge Management Services (Bioresources)
Notice Description
Anglian Water Services Ltd (AWS) produces over 150,000 dry tonnes of raw wastewater derived sludge per annum for treatment. Forecast population growth and increased sludge production as a result of future environmental investment programmes means our total sludge production will increase. Therefore we have a need for additional sludge treatment capacity in our AMP8 investment period (2025-2030). AWS is the largest water and water recycling company in England and Wales by geographic area. We supply water and water recycling services to almost seven million people in the East of England and Hartlepool. Our sludge treatment boundaries cover from the Humber in the north to the Thames in the south, from Northampton in the west and across to the East Coast. We also provide water services ONLY to the Hartlepool area. For further information on Bioresources please refer to our published information hosted on our website https://www.anglianwater.co.uk/about-us/who-we-are/our-suppliers/doing-business-with-others/
Lot Information
Lot 1
Population growth and additional sewage sludge production at our WRC's arising from planned environmental improvements though the WINEP programme means we forecast to require an increase in regional sludge treatment capacity of 23,000 tonnes dry solids per annum by 2030. This is derived from a range of Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) with sludge types including: * Primary sludge * Secondary sludge * Co-settled sludge (mix of primary and secondary) Currently sludge produced by our water recycling operations is treated at ten regional sludge treatment centres (STC). The sludge is received at these centres is a number of forms including; a mix of raw, un-screened, screened, un-thickened, thickened liquid and screened dewatered cake. We would expect any solution for the new required capacity to be able to receive this same full range of sludge types. The wastewater treatment processes varies and includes biological and chemical phosphorus removal technologies. We are seeking solutions for the treatment of sewage sludge and management of products, bi-products and residual solids We are open to considering options that fulfil the entire 23,000TDS need or part of, although we would only consider proposals that could guarantee a minimum of 5,000 tds per annum or above. We are open to opportunities where sludge can be combined with other feedstock's. We are also interested in options to provide "turn-key" solutions, which include provision of finance and operating services, alongside providing upfront design and build services. Any proposals involving recycling products to agricultural land would need to fully comply with all appropriate legislation & codes of practise, including the Safe Sludge Matrix and BAS Standard. We are open to the idea the treated material (Biosolids Products) is returned to AWS for onward recycling through our Nutri-Bio brand where this product is intended for recycling to agricultural markets. Services for treatment of our sludge do not need to be co-located within our existing operations. However, we wish to highlight that our sites at Gt Billing (Northampton), Colchester and Whitlingham (Norwich) have the potential available land to be co-located with our existing facilities, other sites across the AWS area may also be of interest. Currently our sewage sludge is predominately treated at 10 STC's using advanced anaerobic digestion technology, producing a high quality biosolids cake for recycling to agriculture as a soil conditioner under our Nutri-bio brand. The products are certified under the BAS (Biosolids Assurance Scheme). We are open and encourage alternative treatment technologies that open up new markets offering alternative outlets to agricultural land application. Details of our Water Recycling sites (WRC) that produce sludge and our existing Sludge Treatment Centre (STC) sites can be found in our published market information on our website. Following closure of the PIN we will hold a follow up webinar (via MS Teams) for interested parties. Additional information: Please remember to read all of our PIN in detail along with the additional information hosted on our Anglian Water Website: https://www.anglianwater.co.uk/about-us/who-we-are/our-suppliers/doing-business-with-others/

"description": "Bioresource activities include all operations and services required to collect, transport, treat and sustainably recycle all associated products that arise from the processing of sewage sludge, a bi-product of the treatment of wastewater at our water recycling centres (WRCs). We produce approximately 150,000 tonnes dry solids (TDS) per annum of sewage sludge at our Water Recycling Centres (WRC) at over 1,100 locations across the operational region. This sewage sludge requires treatment prior to safe recycling back to the environment. Currently sludge produced is treated and recycled at ten centralised sludge treatment centres (STC) dispersed across our operational area. We anticipate that solutions offered with be sited within our geographic operational area or within close proximity, where solutions are offered from neighbouring areas."
