Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process was initiated by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, focusing on the provision of inspection, service, and maintenance of lifting and hoisting equipment in domestic properties. This contract, classified under repair and maintenance services (CPV code 50000000), aims to ensure that disabled and elderly individuals can live comfortably and independently in their homes across the UKD region. The process used an open procurement method, including a framework agreement and an electronic auction, reflecting an open procedure. The key dates involved the contract’s start on 22 December 2023, with a submission deadline updated to 29 August 2023, and contract signing subsequently on 11 March 2024. The buyers include several regional councils like Salford, Oldham, and Trafford Councils.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses in the repair and maintenance sector, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) like the awarded supplier, City Lift Services (NW) Ltd. Companies with experience in maintaining lifting equipment—such as stairlifts and ceiling track hoists—are well-suited to compete. The need for 24/7 call-out services for equipment breakdowns underscores the demand for reliability and prompt response, offering businesses a chance to establish or strengthen their presence in the public sector service market. SMEs can leverage this framework agreement to secure a steady flow of contracts and expand their client base across multiple councils in the UKD region.
