This project requests funding to purchase commercialised ready-to-use Organ on Chip systems at UKHSA Porton Down. This technology provides a more relevant system for studying human disease and evaluating therapeutics.
Procurement Information
The absence of competition ground under Regulation 32(2)(b)(ii) is relevant as, based upon UKHSA's requirements and market intelligence, there appears to be a monopoly market that applies in the current case. Operational colleagues have confirmed that although a potential alternative platform could be used, this would come with significant drawbacks.<br/>In addition and in the alternative, as the only supplier of the product, the protection of exclusive rights (in the form of patents owned or exclusively licensed by CN Bio as well as trade secrets and know-how) under Regulation 32(2)(b)(iii) would similarly apply in this case.
